Kyle, age 3, entered a stamp art painting he made last month at our local summer festival here in Estacada. He earned a 6th place ribbon!
Grant, age 5, entered a photo he had taken at Christmas time. It was called "Christmas In Motion." Unfortunately, he didn't receive an award--the competition was stiff for his age group. But, in true Grant style, he didn't let it bother him and sluffed it off as another experience he likely won't waste his time on again.
Dallin, age 7, entered a nice floral painting he made for a school project this past year. He wasn't convinced he wanted to enter that particular piece and was certain he could whip out a nice Star Wars drawing or something at the last minute. I convinced him to stick with the painting and he was rewarded for it! He won 1st place and also received a "Special Award" for the Best Youth Floral Painting. The look on his face was priceless when we went to the fair to see the kids' prize results. He about burst through the ceiling when he saw his ribbons and he has been in the clouds ever since. Dallin was content with having the ribbons, but in addition he ended up with $35 in money awards! What a prize! He has told everyone at church and tells everyone who comes to the house about his awards. It's so satisfying to see my children succeed at something and watch their self-confidence grow by leaps and bounds.
Mariah, age 9, entered her horse pencil drawing and earned a 5th place ribbon and a 2nd place money award of $5. We're not really sure which place she was actually awarded by the judges since they weren't sure how the mix-up occurred. But either way, Mariah was happy and excited about both places!
