Mariah had a school project where she had to research and construct a solar cooker. The goal was to be able to melt cheese on tortilla chips to make an edible nacho. After a bit of research, we gathered the supplies and she got to work putting her design together.
The day before it was due she tested her cooker to see how it would work. It performed pretty well, although she was unsure it would fully melt the cheese the next day when the sun was supposed to be less radiant. She checked the temperature of her cooker and it got hot enough we had to remove the thermometer from the pot so it wouldn't explode! Even with fairly promising results in her test, she fretted and toiled and cried, unsure if her project would be a success at school or not.
Well, what was she worried about? She came home with a candy bar as the prize for winning the competition--her cooker got the hottest and cooked the best! Kudos to Mariah for her diligent effort!
